Disability Freedom : What's in a name ? America has always represented freedom, a land of opportunity, inclusion for all, where an individual has the choice to pursue their own livelihood. Never have these ideals been more important than today, and in a difficult economy the ideals of self determination, self directed employment have never been more paramount to persons with disabilities.
It has been 18 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act was enacted, yet the unemployment rate among Americans with disabilities is between 70-80%, according to testimony from The Sierra Group before the House Committee on Ways and Means.* This number grows everyday as so many Veterans return home with severe physical and emotional disabilities. These young men & women are putting their lives on the line for our Freedom, they need our support as they pursue employment that is going to fit their individual needs.
We assist all persons with disabilities to pursue their goals in self~employment. As entrepreneurs they have the right and freedom to make choices that allow them to lead meaningful productive lives while supporting themselves and their families.
The high unemployment among persons with disabilities is not necessarily because they cannot, or do not want to work; more so, it is that finding and retaining employment that provides specific accommodations that meet the needs of each individual's disability is difficult to obtain.
As an entrepreneur an individual has the responsibility to control & direct their own employment goals.
Disability Freedom, Inc. : is a not for profit, peer run organization dedicated to providing resources, employment network services, technical assistance, and systems advocacy to individuals with disabilities who are or desire to be entrepreneurs.
Our Mission: to assist persons with disabilities in reaching their self-defined goals as entrepreneurs through Business Coaching & Education, Information & Referral, Benefits & Advisement, and Systems Advocacy for the self employed.
